Write one answerable question
Choose a narrow question before searching: what changed between two reports, who is named as an owner, or what a person actually stated on a particular date. A narrow question makes it easier to notice when the available evidence does not answer it.
Search by person or asset, then choose a record type. A quarterly institutional position, a historical family sale and a creator’s newsletter need different wording. Do not combine them into a single current-holdings claim.
Build a small evidence packet
- The fact: a quantity, amount range or carefully attributed statement.
- The owner: the institution, person or family member actually identified.
- The dates: the event or report period, disclosure date when known, and collection date kept separate.
- The evidence: specific original links or a clearly labeled secondary source.
- The limits: what the source does not establish.
Use the quotation as a starting point, not an endorsement
The site’s quotation templates retain those fields and bind the output to record versions. Read the original before publication and keep the necessary qualifications when editing. A quotation does not replace your editorial judgement or make a research draft cleared for public reuse.
If the clipboard is unavailable, open the quotation page and copy the text manually. A useful shared paragraph still needs the reporting dates and source links; removing them makes it harder for a reader to check the claim.
Check the result and make correction easy
Ask another reader to identify the owner and reporting date from your caption alone. If they cannot, revise it before publication. Test each link and avoid language implying live access, a complete personal portfolio, a transaction cost or an investment motive that was not disclosed.
Keep the record permalink with your research notes. If the evidence is corrected or withdrawn later, that link provides the version context needed to update the published work. Actual use and repeat use of this workflow are the product’s validation targets—not the number of profiles in the directory.
Follow the evidence
References support the source definitions and dated examples. They do not establish private account access or permission to reproduce an entire external publication.
