A personal update has a specific scope
A creator can explain a strategy, a change in preference or an investment plan without publishing an account statement. Read the verbs carefully. An intention to allocate money, a history of buying an index fund and a statement of a current balance are different claims.
The collected Graham Stephan newsletter is dated April 21, 2026. It discusses a portfolio shift and refers to index-fund investing and Bitcoin. That makes it a dated first-person source; it does not make this website an independent verification of the writer’s accounts.
Avoid replacing an unnamed fund with a familiar ticker
If a writer identifies an S&P 500 index fund without naming a product, retain the description. Assigning an ETF ticker would add a security identity that the statement did not establish. A category can be useful information without becoming a specific instrument.
The same applies to quantities and weights. Only attach a numerical allocation to the exact period, denominator and wording supported by the source. Do not infer that the rest of an account is cash or distribute the remainder across assets that were merely mentioned.
Keep revisions and dates visible
A later update can qualify an earlier statement. Preserve the old quotation’s date and evidence rather than silently rewriting it to sound current. If the original page changes materially, record the change and review any affected summary.
For a creator researching another creator, the strongest output is often a compact explanation of what was stated and what was not disclosed. A longer holdings table filled with assumptions is less useful.
A practical extraction checklist
- Who made the statement, and on what date?
- Does it describe an action, a plan or a general strategy?
- Is the asset a specific security or a category?
- Are the quantity, percentage and denominator actually supplied?
- Can the reader open the original statement?
Follow the evidence
References support the source definitions and dated examples. They do not establish private account access or permission to reproduce an entire external publication.
